Denise Sagara at Yolo CFB had a strong turn-out this morning for a Growers Information Meeting. Now that most harvest activities are over for the season, growers have a little time to devote to education, and Denise's program featured important information for growers. Speakers discussed upcoming diesel engine regulations, PG&E's soon-to-be-implemented Peak Day Pricing program. I spent about an hour updating the audience on the new Heat Illness Prevention standard, new Workers Comp posting requirements, advising them on how to deal with enforcers and self-appointed farmworker advocates, and basic compliance issues like employee verification, occupational safety and health, wages and overtime.
Hopefully, we were able to get some folks up to speed and remind them about what they need to be doing. If any blog readers out there would like to see a copy of the presentation, just respond to this post.
